MEMBERSHIP

Anyone interested in membership may email the Department or visit us the last Monday of each month at 7 p.m., our monthly meeting night. Should this night be a holiday we meet the following Tuesday.

Members must be at least 18 years of age, who are of good character, mentally fit, pass a general physical exam, background check and reside within the Town of Lima.

New members shall be on probation for six (6) months. It shall be mandatory to attend all functions (meetings, drills, truck checks, etc.) unless excused by the officer in charge, non-compliance, to be acted on by the Executive Committee.

All newly elected active members must obtain a certificate of training from The State Bureau of Fire, within three (3) years after the election to the Department, for "Firefighter I" for interior or exterior firefighters or "Scene Support" for exterior only firefighters, to maintain membership.

Under a program from Fireman's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) called the Higher Education Learning Plan (HELP), volunteer firefighters who apply as students are eligible to have between 75 to 100 percent of their tuition reimbursed, depending on their grades.

Fire Police Information

Qualifications

  • Must be an active member of Lima Fire Department
    - There will be a 6-month time of probation
    - Be certified by Town and Department Officials

  • 18 years of age

  • Complete a 21-hour certification course

  • Until then, you cannot be on duty alone

What Does a Fire Police Person Do?

  • Responds to all fire emergencies and MVA's

  • Upon arrival at scene, determine safety needs
    - If possible, check in with scene control officer

  • Control traffic around the scene

  • Use proper means to control the traffic
    - (i.e. flares, cones, flags, lights, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • As with all active members, must attend a Monthly Meeting and a Drill at least once a quarter

  • Always keep yourself and others safe and out of harms way

  • Always respond to the requests of the Chief of the scene coordinator

  • Always remember, YOU ARE A PEACE OFFICER!
    - Do what has to be done in a friendly way
    - But, if need be, remember, you have a very important job to do. YOU are responsible for the safety of all concerned

 

Junior Fire Fighter

Lima Fire Department has a program to train future firefighters. You must be between ages 14-21 and a resident of the Town of Lima.
